Grand Cherokee 2021 Review

Updated: Jan 14, 2021

Just a few days after 2020 and Jeep is already wowing us with the new generation two- and three-row Jeep Grand Cherokee 2021. The 2021 Grand Cherokee is available in seven trim levels: Laredo, Limited, Overland, Trailhawk, Trackhawk, SRT, and Summit, however, the introduction of the all-new three-row Grand Cherokee L steals the headlines. For Jeep, adding a more modern and sophisticated package is geared towards accommodating every lifestyle. From the affordable Laredo to the classy Summit, the Grand Cherokee 2021 boasts excellent off-road ability, a posh interior, a firm ride, a user-friendly infotainment system, and unremarkable cargo space.

Engine and Transmission

The 2021 Grand Cherokee will offer two engines: the standard V-6 for the base Laredo and the luxurious V-8 models. The Standard V-6 offers 290 HP does an amazing job on the highway which should cater to most buyers’ needs. For customers who want more firepower, Jeep offers an optional HEMI V-8 5.7-liter potent engine 357 HP. Four-wheel drive comes standard as both engines pair to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Handling and Performance

No matter the configuration, the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee’s greatest strength is its versatility. From the off-road-conquering Trailhawk to the luxurious Summit and the tire-smoking Trackhawk, there is trim for any occasion. The V6 models boast a whopping 6200 pounds brawny towing capacity while the V-8 models have a greater towering capacity (7200 pounds), propelling its versatility to another level. In terms of fuel efficiency, the V-6 model rated 25 mpg in our highway fuel-economy score while the potent V-8 models, with its higher towing capacity, will consume more although the EPA rating has not yet been released as at the time of writing this article.

Interior

The Grand Cherokee 2021 is an icon for its capability and customization. Jeep designers perfectly blend leather, soft-touch materials, and hard plastics where it counts to provide comfort, quality look, and feel. Taking a look at the all-new Grand Cherokee L model, you’ll discover a more sophisticated interior design made with Porshe materials to add a neat and tidy finish. The rear two-row seat, when folded, looks modern and cleanly styled, requiring just one action to release the headrest and flip the seat down to its flat position.

Storage

Depending on the model, the Grand Cherokee offers either a comfortable cabin with plenty of conveniences, a sense of ruggedness, or luxury features. For the 2021 Grand Cherokee L, the luggage space fills a large hole in the Jeep lineup. We haven’t tested other models but we think the midlevel Trailhawk offers the best mix of maximum off-road capability and sufficient comforts.

Safety

Both the two-row and new three-row models offer key safety and optional driver-assistance features including:

· Available adaptive cruise control

· Available automated emergency braking

· Available lane-departure warning

We expect both models to undergo the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the IIHS soon.

Infotainment

A touchscreen infotainment system (ranging from an 8.4-inch or 10.1-inch multimedia touchscreen, depending on the model) and lots of connectivity tech help keep the Grand Cherokee 2021 in vogue. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility and the ability for over-the-air updates come standard for the Grand Cherokee L but Jeep's driver-assistance tech is mostly optional. A standard 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster is available, displaying a top-down view of the backseat area. USB-A and USB-C charge ports are widely spread throughout the SUV – you can’t run out of power with 12 ports, can you? To add to handsome styling, tenacious off-road capability, the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers luxuries such as driver memory settings, heated second-row seats, a power-operated rear liftgate, automatic high-beam headlamps, leather upholstery, and interior ambient lighting.

The high-performance SUV starts from $33,715 but you can grab the best Grand Cherokee lease bargain on Ice Auto Group.
