All New 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class

Updated: Apr 7, 2020

Looking at the name alphabetically, the GLB-Class finds its place between the GLA-Class and GLC-Class [smaller and bigger siblings respectively], both of which offer unique Mercedes-Benz experiences. Unlike the siblings, the GLB-Class is designed with the intent of satisfying the changing demands of the market. It is one of the most spacious luxury-compact SUVs in the industry today that offers an appealing starting price. What was Mercedes-Benz thinking when they brought the lineups [GLA, GLB, and GLC] to the United States? Market expansion, I perceive. As much as it surprises those who think it’s a big risk, the deal is paying off big time. Now, Mercedes can produce something for both the elite and younger customers. The all-new 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class is a three-rowed family wagon SUV. It is the right size for families with larger siblings. With its sophisticated technological features, design, impressive infotainment suite, and spacious compartment, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class challenges the likes of the BMW X1, Audi Q3, and Volvo XC40.

Engine and Transmission

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that is rated 221 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. That engine is paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that can fire from 0 – 60 mph in 6.9 seconds with standard front-wheel drive. And, switching to the all-wheel-drive system option will enhance the efficiency and traction as it surges half the power to the rear wheels.

Handling and Performance

In terms of performance, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB is almost identical to the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3. With front-wheel drive, the official gas mileage ratings for the GLB are 26 mpg combined fuel economy, with 23 mpg city and 30 mpg highway, beating the Audi Q3 but outperformed by the BMW X1 which fires in 6.3 seconds in the same claim.

There’s no much difference with the all-wheel-drive as the ratings are 26 mpg combined fuel economy, with 23 mpg city and 31 mpg highway. The all-wheel-drive and adaptive dampers ensure slightly sportier handling, safe driving in any weather condition as well as any canyon road worth threading.

Interior

The interior boasts plenty of space, making it comfortable and accommodating. The GLB comes with optional multi-contour MB-Tex synthetic leather seats with ventilation, heating, and 12-way power-adjustments [for the front] features. Heated and ventilated seats will cost you extra and the massage function may not be as effective as the BMW X3 and Audi Q3 but it adjusts the cushion angles to alleviate soreness on long trips.

There are also the standard power front sport seats and a heated steering wheel. What’s more, there’s room for customization; buyers can outfit their Mercedes-Benz GLB with other luxury features such as interior ambient lighting.

Storage

The GLB-Class makes up for generous space while lacking some standard interior equipment that we see in most of its competitors.

With the three-layered seat option, the boxy-shape SUV is spacious enough to accommodate seven passengers and can carry up to 62 cubic feet of cargo with the rear seats folded down. The third-row seat makes a clear advantage even though it is a little less comfortable.

Infotainment

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB certainly impressed with its comprehensive infotainment suite. It's perfect positioning and the inclusion of Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, a wireless hotspot, and four USB-C ports provide plenty of options for users to link their phone and other gadgets to the GLB250.

Safety

The GLB-Class comes with all of Mercedes’ latest advanced safety features, driver assistants as well as the best personal assistant-style voice command in the world “Hey, Mercedes” – MBUX infotainment system. However, as at the time of writing this post, the new GLB-Class has not been crash-tested by the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) or NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration).

The all-new 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB-class is a spacious SUV that is equipped with luxury and sophisticated technological features. With uncompromising tech, the GLB-Class offers a remarkable price tag for the young professionals and large families. Even with that price, you can grab the best GLB-Class lease bargain on Ice Auto Group. “Ice Auto Group" offers one of the best possible prices on the market and beats all dealer prices.
